01. क्या होते हैं वक्री ग्रह?

ज्योतिष जगत में वक्री ग्रहों की बहुत चर्चा होती है। अनेक बार आप समाचार पत्रों में, पंचांगों में और मीडिया आदि में सुनते होंगे कि फलां ग्रह अमुक तिथि से अमुक तिथि तक वक्री हो गया है। सबसे पहले हम यह जानेंगे की वक्री का अर्थ क्या है? संस्कृत में वक्री का अर्थ होता है कुटिल अथवा टेढ़ा। अंग्रेजी में इसका पर्यायवाची शब्द retrograde है। है जिसका अर्थ है विपरीत, उल्टा या पीछे की ओर गमन करना। अतः किसी ग्रह की उल्टी या विपरीत दिशा की चाल को वक्री या retro-gradation कहा जाता है। लेकिन क्या कोई ग्रह अपने मार्ग से हटकर अचानक उलटी दिशा में अथवा विपरीत दिशा में भ्रमण करने लगता है? इसकी सच्चाई क्या है?

वास्तव में जो ग्रह सूर्य के आकर्षण के घेरे में निश्चित गति से लगातार घूमते रहते हैं, वह कभी वक्री हो ही नहीं सकते। यानी कि वह कभी उल्टे चल ही नहीं सकते। अगर यथार्थ में ऐसा होता तो इस सृष्टि और समस्त ग्रह मंडल का विनाश हो जाता। तो फिर हम ऐसा क्यों कहते हैं कि अमुक ग्रह वक्री हो गया। वास्तव में हम जब किसी ग्रह के वक्री होने की बात कहते हैं, तो यह उस ग्रह विशेष की प्रत्यक्ष स्थिति का तुलनात्मक विवेचन होता है, जो स्थिति दृष्टि भ्रम (optical illusion) के कारण उत्पन्न होती है।

इसको एक उदाहरण के साथ समझा जा सकता है। मान लीजिए हम एक रेल यात्रा कर रहे हैं। हमारे समानांतर पटरी पर दूसरी रेल भी चल रही है। जो रेल हमारे समानांतर चल रही है उसकी गति अगर हमारी रेल से कुछ कम हो तो ऐसा लगता है कि सामने वाली ट्रेन पीछे की ओर जा रही है। जबकि वास्तव में ऐसा होता नहीं है वह आगे की ओर ही बढ़ रही होती है। इसी प्रकार से जब पृथ्वी की गति अपनी धुरी पर अपने समानांतर चलने वाले ग्रह से तेज होती है, तब पृथ्वी पर निवास करने वालों को पृथ्वी के समानांतर चलने वाला ग्रह पीछे की ओर जाता हुआ दिखाई पड़ता है, तब हम कहते हैं कि ग्रह वक्री हो गया। अतः वक्री ग्रह वास्तव में एक दृष्टि भ्रम है, और व्यावहारिक तौर पर ग्रह कभी वक्री नहीं होते और ना ही कभी उल्टे चलते हैं।

ज्योतिष की भाषा में जब हम किसी ग्रह को “वक्री” होने का दर्जा देते हैं तो वास्तव में ऐसी स्थिति उस ग्रह की पृथ्वी की तुलना में मंद गति होने की सूचना देती है। माना जाता है कि ऐसी स्थिति में उस ग्रह विशेष की शक्ति कुछ कम हो जाती है। ज्योतिष शास्त्र के अनुसार सूर्य और चंद्रमा दो ऐसे ग्रह है जो कभी वक्री नहीं होते। क्योंकि इनकी गति सदैव पृथ्वी की गति से तेज ही रहती है। हालांकि वैज्ञानिक तौर पर सूर्य एक स्थिर ग्रह है पृथ्वी उसके चारों तरफ एक अंडाकार घेरे में चक्कर काटती है। इस क्रम में जब वह सूर्य के निकट आती है तब उसकी गति बढ़ी हुई प्रतीत होती है किंतु ज्योतिष की भाषा में यही कहा जाता है कि सूर्य पृथ्वी से अधिक तेज गति से चल रहा।

जब कभी पृथ्वी ग्रह के समानांतर कोई ग्रह आता है तो उसकी गति पृथ्वी की गति के समान ही होती है तब वह ग्रह धरती वासियों को स्थिर प्रतीत होता है। किंतु वास्तव में ऐसा होता नहीं है। अतः वक्री ग्रह और स्थिर ग्रह प्रत्यक्ष रूप से गति के अंतर- प्रत्यंतर के कारण आंखों से दिखाई देने वाली विभिन्न दृष्टि भ्रम मात्र है। अतः विद्वान ज्योतिषी किसी ग्रह की स्थिति को भली -भांति समझने के बाद ही वायुमंडल और पृथ्वी वासियों पर होने वाले प्रभाव का सूक्ष्मता से अध्ययन करते हैं।

Retrograde Planets Series – Part – 01 (Hindi & English)

01. What are retrograde planets?

There is a lot of discussion about retrograde planets in the world of astrology. Many times you must have heard in newspapers, almanacs and media that a certain planet has become retrograde from a certain date to a certain date. First of all, we will know what is the meaning of retrograde? In Sanskrit, retrograde means crooked or crooked. Its synonym in English is retrograde. Which means moving in the opposite direction, reverse or backwards. Therefore, the reverse or opposite direction movement of a planet is called retrograde. But does any planet suddenly move away from its path and start moving in the opposite direction? What is the truth behind this?

In reality, the planets which continuously move at a fixed speed in the circle of attraction of the Sun can never become retrograde. That is, they can never move backwards. If this were to happen in reality, then this universe and the entire planetary system would have been destroyed. Then why do we say that a particular planet has become retrograde. In fact, when we talk about a planet being retrograde, it is a comparative analysis of the apparent position of that particular planet, which situation arises due to optical illusion.

This can be understood with an example. Suppose we are travelling in a train. Another train is also running on a parallel track. If the speed of the train which is moving parallel to us is less than ours, then it seems that the train in front is going backwards. Whereas in reality this does not happen, it is moving forward only. Similarly, when the speed of the Earth on its axis is faster than the planet moving parallel to it, then the people living on Earth see the planet moving parallel to the Earth going backwards, then we say that the planet has become retrograde. Therefore, a retrograde planet is actually an optical illusion, and practically planets are never retrograde nor do they ever move backwards.

In the language of astrology, when we give a planet the status of being “retrograde”, then in reality such a situation indicates that the planet is moving at a slower speed than the earth. It is believed that in such a situation the power of that particular planet decreases somewhat. According to astrology, the Sun and the Moon are two such planets that are never retrograde. Because their speed is always faster than the speed of the earth. Although scientifically the Sun is a stationary planet, the Earth revolves around it in an elliptical circle. In this sequence, when it comes near the Sun, its speed seems to increase, but in the language of astrology it is said that the Sun moves faster than the Earth.

Whenever a planet comes parallel to the Earth, its speed is the same as the speed of the Earth, then that planet appears to be stationary to the people of the earth. But in reality it is not so. Therefore, retrograde planets and stationary planets are just different optical illusions visible to the eyes due to the difference in speed. Therefore, learned astrologers study the effect of a planet on the atmosphere and the inhabitants of the earth only after understanding its position thoroughly.
