श्री गणेशजी का पूजन क्यों अनिवार्य है? (Hindi & English)
01. हमारे प्रथम आराध्य श्री गणेशजी
हमारे सनातन धर्म में भगवान श्री गणेशजी को प्रथम पूजनीय कहा जाता है। हमारे यहां कोई भी शुभ मांगलिक कार्य बिना गणेशजी के पूजन किए नहीं किया जाता है। हमारे हिन्दू धर्म में “श्री गणेश” करना ही किसी भी कार्य का शुभारंभ करने का द्योतक माना गया है।
02. क्यों हैं श्री गणेशजी प्रथम पूजनीय?
गणेश जी को ब्रह्मा, विष्णु, महेश इत्यादि त्रिदेवों के अलावा समस्त देवी-देवताओं द्वारा अग्र पूजनीय होने का वरदान मिला है। इसका जिक्र विभिन्न पुराणों और धर्म ग्रन्थों में आता है। वेदों में भी यज्ञ-हवनादि से पूर्व गणेशजी का आह्वान करने का विधान है। और हवन यज्ञादि को निर्विघ्न सफल बनाने के लिए सर्व प्रथम गणेशजी का पूजन करना ही अनिवार्य बताया गया है। ब्रह्मवैवर्त पुराण में उल्लेख है कि सर्वप्रथम भगवान विष्णु ने गणेशजी को अग्रपूज्य और सर्वपूज्य होने का वरदान दिया था।भगवान ने कहा था कि जबतक गणेशजी की पूजा नहीं होगी, अन्य सभी देवी-देवताओं का पूजन भी स्वीकार्य नहीं होगा। पुराणों में उन्हें “विघ्नहर्ता” भी कहा गया है।
03. क्या हमारे पुराणों में भी है उल्लेख?
स्कन्दपुराण में उल्लेख है कि समुद्रमंथन के पूर्व देवताओं ने गणेशजी का पूजन नहीं किया था, तब कालकूट नामक हलाहल विष निकला। और मंथन कार्य में बहुत बड़ा विघ्न उत्पन्न हो गया। तब भगवान शिव ने उस विष को ग्रहण करते समय सभी देवताओं को निर्देश दिया कि जब भी गणेश पूजन के बिना कोई शुभ कार्य किया जायेगा तो विघ्न उत्पन्न अवश्य होगा।
ब्रह्मांड पुराण के अनुसार भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने भी गणेशजी को समस्त देवताओं में अग्रपूज्य होने का वरदान दिया था।
गणेश पुराण और लिंग पुराण में उल्लेख है कि जब त्रिपुर नामक राक्षस के वध के समय विघ्न उत्तपन्न होने लगा तो गणेश जी ने समस्त विघ्नों को हरकर त्रिपुर विजय दिलवाई। तब त्रिदेवों नें उन्हें विघ्नहर्ता और अग्रपूज्य होने का वरदान दिया।
ब्रह्मांड पुराण, लिंग पुराण, और स्कन्दपुराण आदि में उल्लेख है कि विवाह, मुंडन, आदि सोलह संस्कारों, यात्रा, व्यापार, गृह प्रवेश, कृषि कर्म, युद्ध, देवता पूजन, यज्ञ और अनुष्ठानों में जो व्यक्ति भक्तिपूर्वक सर्वप्रथम श्री गणेशजी का पूजन करता है तो उसकी समस्त मनोकामनाएं सिद्ध होती हैं।
04. क्यों लगाते हैं श्री गणेशजी को सिंदूर?
भगवान गणेशजी को सिंदूर अवश्य चढ़ाया जाता है। उनकी मूर्तियों पर सिंदूर का लेपन किया जाता है। शिवपुराण के अनुसार जब शिवजी के द्वारा गणेशजी का सर काटे जाने के पश्चात हाथी का सर लगाया गया, तब उसमें पहले से ही सिंदूर का लेपन हो रखा था। माता पार्वती ने जब देखा तो वरदान दिया कि पुत्र! तुम्हारे मुख पर सिंदूर का विलेपन हो रहा है, अतः मनुष्यों द्वारा तुम सिंदूर से पूजे जाओगे। गणेश पुराण में भी एक कथा है कि एक बार बाल्यावस्था में ही गणेशजी ने सिंदूर नाम के दैत्य का वध करके उसके रक्त का अपने शरीर पर लेपन कर लिया था। तब से भगवान गणेश सिंदूर वदन एवम सिन्दूरप्रिय के नाम से विख्यात हुए और भक्त उन्हें सिंदूर लगाने लगे।
05. क्यों चढ़ाते हैं श्रीगणेश को दूब?
इस घटना के बारे गणेश पुराण में ही विभिन्न उल्लेख मिलते हैं। गणेश पुराण की एक कथा के अनुसार एक चांडाली, एक गधा और एक बैल गणेश मंदिर में जाते हैं। अनजाने में ही उनके हाथों से दुर्वा घास गणेशजी की प्रतिमा पर गिर जाती है। जिससे प्रसन्न होकर गणेशजी विमान से उन्हें अपने लोक बुला लेते हैं। एक अन्य कथा के अनुसार गणेशजी ने बालक रूप में अनलासुर को अपने कंठ में धारण कर लिया था, इससे उनके गले मे तेज जलन होने लगी। तब उस ताप की शांति मुनियों द्वारा इक्कीस दूर्वांकुरों को अर्पण करने पर हुई थी।
गणेश पुराण के उपासना खण्ड में वर्णन है कि मिथिला नरेश जनक के नगर का सम्पूर्ण अन्न भक्षण करने के बाद भी एक कुष्ठ रोगी वेषधारी गणेशजी तृप्त नहीं हो रहे थे। तब त्रिशिरा की चतुर पत्नी विरोचना ने एक दूर्वा में धरती के समस्त व्यंजनों की कल्पना करके गणेशजी को भक्तिपूर्वक भेंट किया। तब कहीं जाकर गणेशजी तृप्त और प्रसन्न हुए थे। इसी प्रकार कौण्डिन्य की पत्नी आश्रया नें भी दूर्वांकुरों द्वारा भगवान गणेशजी को प्रसन्न करने की कथा मिलती है। इस प्रकार से उपर्युक्त कथाएं दूर्वांकुरों के महत्व को बताती हैं। इसीलिए गणेशजी को प्रसन्न करने के लिए दूब चढ़ाने का विधान बना।

Why is it mandatory to worship Shri Ganesh Ji? (Hindi & English)
01. Our first deity Shri Ganesh Ji
In our Sanatan Dharma, Lord Shri Ganesh Ji is said to be the first to be worshipped. No auspicious work is done here without worshipping Ganesh Ji. In our Hindu religion, chanting “Shri Ganesh” is considered to be the symbol of starting any work.
02. Why is Shri Ganesh Ji the first to be worshipped?
Ganesh Ji has got the blessing of being worshipped first by all the gods and goddesses apart from the Tridevas like Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh etc. This is mentioned in various Puranas and religious texts. In the Vedas also, there is a rule to invoke Ganesh Ji before Yagya-Havana etc. And to make Havan Yagya etc. successful without any hindrance, it is said to be mandatory to worship Ganesh Ji first. It is mentioned in Brahmavaivart Purana that first of all Lord Vishnu blessed Ganeshji to be the foremost and the most revered. God had said that till Ganeshji is not worshipped, the worship of all other gods and goddesses will also not be accepted. He is also called “Vighnaharta” in Puranas.
03. Is it mentioned in our Puranas too?
It is mentioned in Skanda Purana that before Samudra Manthan, the gods did not worship Ganeshji, then the poison named Kalakut came out. And a great obstacle arose in the churning work. Then Lord Shiva, while consuming that poison, instructed all the gods that whenever any auspicious work is done without Ganesh worship, then an obstacle will definitely arise.
According to Brahmanda Purana, Lord Krishna also blessed Ganeshji to be the foremost revered among all the gods. It is mentioned in Ganesha Purana and Linga Purana that when obstacles arose while killing a demon named Tripura, Ganesha defeated all the obstacles and helped Tripura win. Then the Tridevas gave him the boon of being the destroyer of obstacles and the first to be worshipped.
It is mentioned in Brahmanda Purana, Linga Purana and Skanda Purana that if a person worships Lord Ganesha first with devotion in sixteen rites like marriage, tonsure, etc., travel, business, housewarming, agricultural work, war, deity worship, yagya and rituals, then all his wishes are fulfilled.
04. Why do we apply sindoor to Shri Ganesh Ji?
Sindoor is definitely offered to Lord Ganesh Ji. Sindoor is applied on his idols. According to Shiv Puran, when Ganesh Ji’s head was cut off by Lord Shiva and an elephant’s head was put on it, it was already coated with sindoor. When Mother Parvati saw this, she blessed him that son! Sindoor is being applied on your face, so you will be worshipped by humans with sindoor. There is also a story in Ganesh Puran that once in his childhood, Ganesh Ji killed a demon named Sindoor and applied his blood on his body. Since then, Lord Ganesh became famous by the name of Sindoor Vadan and Sindoorpriya and devotees started applying sindoor to him.
05. Why do we offer grass to Shri Ganesh?
Various references are found about this incident in Ganesh Puran itself. According to a story in Ganesha Purana, a Chandali, a donkey and a bull go to the Ganesha temple. Unknowingly, Durva grass falls from their hands on the idol of Ganesha. Pleased with this, Ganesha calls them to his world in his plane. According to another story, Ganesha in the form of a child had put Analasur around his neck, due to which he started having severe burning sensation in his throat. Then that heat was relieved when the sages offered twenty-one Durva shoots.
It is described in the Upasana section of Ganesha Purana that even after eating all the food of the city of King Janak of Mithila, Ganesha disguised as a leper was not getting satiated. Then Trishira’s clever wife Virochana imagined all the delicacies of the earth in a Durva and offered it to Ganesha with devotion. Then Ganesha became satisfied and happy. Similarly, there is a story of Kaundinya’s wife Aashraya pleasing Lord Ganesha with Durva shoots. In this way, the above stories tell the importance of Durva shoots. That is why the tradition of offering grass to please Lord Ganesha was made.
