सनातन हिंदू धर्म में एकादशी तिथि का विशेष महत्व है। वर्ष में 24 एकादशियाँ आती हैं, जिनमें से प्रत्येक एकादशी का अपना अलग धार्मिक व आध्यात्मिक महत्व होता है। इन्हीं में से एक है पुत्रदा एकादशी, जिसे संतान प्राप्ति और संतान की उन्नति के लिए व्रत और उपासना के रूप में मनाया जाता है। यह एकादशी वर्ष में दो बार आती है — एक बार पौष मास के शुक्ल पक्ष में और दूसरी बार श्रावण मास के शुक्ल पक्ष में। दोनों का नाम पुत्रदा एकादशी ही होता है, किंतु अधिक प्रचलन में श्रावण माह की पुत्रदा एकादशी अधिक मानी जाती है। क्योंकि इस समय एकादशी व्रत और पूजन करने पर भगवान शिव और श्री हरि विष्णु दोनों का एकसाथ आशीर्वाद प्राप्त होता है।

2025 में कब है पुत्रदा एकादशी?

इस व्रत को पवित्रा एकादशी व्रत भी कहते हैं। यह प्रत्येक वर्ष सावन माह के शुक्ल पक्ष की एकादशी तिथि को मनाया जाता है। इस वर्ष एकादशी तिथि 5 अगस्त को मनाई जायेगी। शुभ मुहूर्त प्रातः 04:20 से 05:02 तक , पुनः 11:50 से 12:45 तक अभिजीत मुहूर्त पूजन के लिए सर्वोत्तम रहेगा।

व्रत विधि?

पुत्रदा एकादशी के दिन व्रती प्रातः स्नान करके भगवान विष्णु का व्रत और पूजन करते हैं। व्रती को दिनभर निर्जला या फलाहार व्रत रखना चाहिए और रात्रि को जागरण करके भगवान विष्णु के नाम का कीर्तन करना चाहिए। अगले दिन द्वादशी को व्रत का पारण करना आवश्यक होता है। इस दिन भगवान विष्णु की मूर्ति या चित्र पर तुलसी, फूल, धूप, दीप और नैवेद्य अर्पित किया जाता है।

महत्व?

यह व्रत विशेषतः उन दम्पत्तियों के लिए विशेष फलदायक माना गया है जिन्हें संतान प्राप्त नहीं हो रही हो। साथ ही, जिनके संतान है, उनके लिए यह व्रत संतान के उत्तम स्वास्थ्य, बुद्धि और समृद्धि के लिए किया जाता है।

पुत्रदा एकादशी केवल संतान प्राप्ति का उपाय ही नहीं, बल्कि यह आत्म-नियंत्रण, श्रद्धा और भक्ति का भी प्रतीक है। इस दिन किया गया व्रत और पूजा साधक के जीवन में शुभता और सकारात्मकता लाता है। भगवान विष्णु की कृपा से व्रती को मोक्ष, सुख और संतति का वरदान मिलता है। यह एकादशी न केवल लौकिक इच्छाओं की पूर्ति करती है, बल्कि आत्मिक उन्नति का मार्ग भी प्रशस्त करती है।

पुत्रदा एकादशी की व्रत कथा?

महाभारत में उल्लेख मिलता है कि एक बार युधिष्ठिर ने भगवान श्रीकृष्ण से पूछा –

“हे मधुसूदन! कृपया मुझे उस एकादशी का नाम, महत्व और व्रत विधि बताइए जो पौष मास के शुक्ल पक्ष में आती है।”

तब भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने कहा –

“हे धर्मराज! यह एकादशी ‘पुत्रदा एकादशी’ कहलाती है। यह व्रत विशेष रूप से संतान प्राप्ति की इच्छा रखने वालों के लिए अत्यंत शुभदायक है। इस व्रत को करने से निःसंतान दम्पत्ति को योग्य पुत्र की प्राप्ति होती है।” इसके बाद श्रीकृष्ण ने युधिष्ठिर को महर्षि लोमश द्वारा सुनाई गई कथा सुनाई।

पुत्रदा एकादशी की पौराणिक कथा (महर्षि लोमश द्वारा वर्णित):-

प्राचीन काल में भद्रावती नामक नगरी थी, जहाँ सुकेतुमान नामक एक राजा राज्य करता था। वह बड़ा धर्मात्मा और प्रजा का रक्षक था, किंतु उसे संतान नहीं थी। राजा और रानी दोनों ही संतानहीन होने के कारण अत्यंत दुखी रहते थे। राजा को चिंता थी कि उनके बाद राज्य कौन चलाएगा, वंश कैसे आगे बढ़ेगा।

एक दिन अत्यधिक दुःखी होकर राजा सुकेतुमान जंगल में चला गया। वहाँ उसने नदियों, सरोवरों और आश्रमों में घूमते हुए पश्चाताप किया और आत्मचिंतन में लीन हो गया। राजा ने वन में गौ, मृग, सिंह, गजराज आदि पशुओं को अपने बच्चों के साथ देखा तो उसका हृदय और अधिक दुःखी हो गया।

भटकते-भटकते राजा भुजवन्त पर्वत पर स्थित एक आश्रम में पहुँचा। वहाँ अनेक मुनि और ऋषि एकादशी व्रत का पूजन कर रहे थे। उस समय महर्षि लोमश वहाँ उपस्थित थे। राजा ने उन्हें प्रणाम किया और अपनी व्यथा सुनाई।

महर्षि लोमश ने राजा से कहा:

“हे राजन! आज श्रावण शुक्ल एकादशी है। यह व्रत भगवान नारायण को अति प्रिय है और विशेष रूप से संतान की प्राप्ति हेतु वरदान समान है। तुम इस एकादशी का विधिपूर्वक व्रत करो और रात्रि में जागरण करते हुए श्रीहरि विष्णु का स्मरण करो।”

राजा ने वैसा ही किया — उपवास, पूजन और जागरण। अगले दिन द्वादशी को विधिपूर्वक व्रत का पारण किया और ऋषियों से आशीर्वाद लेकर वह अपने महल लौट आया।

कुछ समय बाद रानी गर्भवती हुई और एक तेजस्वी, बुद्धिमान और गुणवान पुत्र को जन्म दिया। वह बालक बड़ा होकर एक योग्य राजा बना।

महर्षि लोमश द्वारा कही गई यह कथा बताती है कि श्रद्धा और निष्ठा से किया गया पुत्रदा एकादशी व्रत निश्चित ही फलदायी होता है।

यह व्रत न केवल संतान प्राप्ति, बल्कि पुत्र की समृद्धि, बुद्धि और दीर्घायु के लिए भी शुभ माना गया है।

Putrada Ekadashi 2025 (Hindi & English)

Ekadashi Tithi has special significance in Sanatan Hindu religion. There are 24 Ekadashis in a year, out of which each Ekadashi has its own religious and spiritual significance. One of these is Putrada Ekadashi, which is celebrated as a fast and worship for the birth of a child and the progress of the child. This Ekadashi comes twice a year – once in the Shukla Paksha of Paush month and the second time in the Shukla Paksha of Shravan month. Both are named Putrada Ekadashi, but Putrada Ekadashi of Shravan month is more popular. Because by observing Ekadashi fast and worship at this time, one gets the blessings of both Lord Shiva and Shri Hari Vishnu together.

When is Putrada Ekadashi in 2025?

This fast is also called Pavitra Ekadashi Vrat. It is celebrated every year on the Ekadashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Sawan month. This year Ekadashi Tithi will be celebrated on 5th August. Shubh Muhurta will be from 04:20 to 05:02 in the morning, again from 11:50 to 12:45 Abhijeet Muhurta will be the best for worship.

Method of fasting?

On the day of Putrada Ekadashi, the fasting person takes a bath in the morning and fasts and worships Lord Vishnu. The fasting person should observe a waterless or fruit-eating fast throughout the day and stay awake at night and sing the praises of Lord Vishnu. It is necessary to break the fast on the next day, Dwadashi. On this day, Tulsi, flowers, incense, lamps and offerings are offered to the idol or picture of Lord Vishnu.

Importance?

This fast is considered especially fruitful for those couples who are unable to have children. Also, for those who have children, this fast is observed for the good health, wisdom and prosperity of the children.

Putrada Ekadashi is not only a means to get children, but it is also a symbol of self-control, faith and devotion. The fast and worship done on this day brings auspiciousness and positivity in the life of the seeker. By the grace of Lord Vishnu, the fasting person gets the boon of salvation, happiness and progeny. This Ekadashi not only fulfills worldly desires, but also paves the way for spiritual progress.

Vrat Katha of Putrada Ekadashi?

It is mentioned in the Mahabharata that once Yudhishthira asked Lord Krishna –

“O Madhusudan! Please tell me the name, importance and fasting method of that Ekadashi which comes in the Shukla Paksha of Paush month.”

Then Lord Krishna said –

“O Dharmaraj! This Ekadashi is called ‘Putrada Ekadashi’. This fast is very auspicious especially for those who wish to have children. By observing this fast, childless couples get a worthy son.” After this, Shri Krishna narrated the story told by Maharishi Lomash to Yudhishthira.

Mythological story of Putrada Ekadashi (narrated by Maharishi Lomash):-

In ancient times, there was a city named Bhadravati, where a king named Suketumaan ruled. He was very pious and a protector of the people, but he did not have children. Both the king and the queen were very sad due to being childless. The king was worried about who would run the kingdom after him, how the lineage would continue.

One day, feeling very sad, King Suketumaan went to the forest. There, he repented while roaming in the rivers, lakes and ashrams and got absorbed in self-contemplation. When the king saw animals like cows, deer, lions, elephants etc. with their children in the forest, his heart became more sad.

Wandering, the king reached an ashram situated on Bhujvant mountain. There many sages and saints were worshipping the Ekadashi fast. At that time Maharshi Lomash was present there. The king bowed to him and told him his sorrow.

Maharshi Lomash said to the king:

“O King! Today is Shravan Shukla Ekadashi. This fast is very dear to Lord Narayana and is especially a boon for getting a child. You should observe this Ekadashi fast according to the rules and remember Shri Hari Vishnu while staying awake at night.”

The king did the same – fasting, worship and vigil. The next day on Dwadashi, he broke the fast according to the rules and returned to his palace after taking blessings from the sages.

After some time the queen became pregnant and gave birth to a bright, intelligent and virtuous son. That child grew up to become a worthy king.

This story told by Maharshi Lomash tells that Putrada Ekadashi fast observed with devotion and faith is definitely fruitful.

This fast is considered auspicious not only for getting a child, but also for the prosperity, wisdom and longevity of the son.

परिचय

तुलसी विवाह सनातन धर्म में विशेष महत्व रखता है। इसे देव उठानी एकादशी भी कहा जाता है। यह प्रत्येक वर्ष कार्तिक मास की शुक्लपक्ष की एकादशी तिथि को मनाया जाता है। इस दिन माता तुलसी और शालिग्राम रूपी भगवान विष्णु का विवाह कराया जाता है। इस दिन सभी लोग तुलसी को सौभाग्यदायिनी मानकर उनकी पूजा और व्रत अनुष्ठान करते हैं। तुलसी विवाह का उत्सव यूं तो सारे भारतवर्ष में प्रचलित है, लेकिन उत्तर भारत में इसे विशेष तौर पर मनाया जाता है।

माता तुलसी के दर्शन, स्पर्श, ध्यान, पूजन, आरोपण और सिंचन से अनेक युगों के पाप नष्ट हो जाते हैं। माता तुलसी को गंगा के समान ही पवित्र, पाप नाशिनी, सौभाग्य दायिनी, और आधि-व्याधि को मिटाने का वरदान प्राप्त है।

तुलसी विवाह का महत्व

मान्यता है कि कार्तिक मास के शुक्ल पक्ष के एकादशी तिथि के दिन भगवान विष्णु अपनी चार महीने की योग निद्रा से जागते हैं। इसलिए इसे देवउठनी एकादशी अथवा प्रबोधिनी एकादशी के रूप में जाना जाता है। इस एकादशी का वर्ष की सभी एकादशियों में अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण स्थान प्राप्त है। क्योंकि हिंदू शास्त्रों के अनुसार, वर्षा के चातुर्मास में किसी भी प्रकार का शुभ और मांगलिक कार्य नहीं किया जाता है। अतः इस दिन तुलसी विवाह से ही समस्त मांगलिक कार्यों की शुरुआत होती है। ऐसी मान्यता है कि जो अपने घर में तुलसी विवाह एवं पूजा का आयोजन करता है, उसके घर से क्लेश और विपत्तियां दूर हो जाती हैं। धन संपदा और समृद्धि बढ़ती है, और माता लक्ष्मी का स्थाई निवास हो जाता है।

तुलसी विवाह पूजन का समय एवम विधि विधान

वर्ष 2024 में तुलसी विवाह दिनांक 12 नवम्बर 2024, मंगलवार को सांय प्रदोष काल में संपन्न कराया जायेगा। तुलसी विवाह में उपवास रखने का नियम है जिसमें अन्न का सेवन नहीं करके केवल फलाहार किया जाता है। आमतौर पर वैष्णो संप्रदाय के लोग तुलसी तथा शालिग्राम का विवाह करते हैं। नए कपड़े, श्रृंगार की वस्तुएं, जनेऊ, आभूषण आदि तुलसी के गमले और शालिग्राम पर चढ़ाया जाता है।

भगवान विष्णु की प्रतिमा में प्राण प्रतिष्ठा करके उसे वस्त्र और आभूषण से सजाकर, पूरे सम्मान और श्रद्धा से गाजे-बाजे के साथ तुलसीजी के चौबारे पर लेकर जाया जाता है। फिर उस स्थान पर विधिपूर्वक पूजन करने के बाद विवाह रचाया जाता है। इस अवसर पर स्त्रियां विवाह के मंगल गीत गाती हैं। पूजन और आरती आदि करती हैं। उसके बाद भोग लगाकर व्रत की समाप्ति करती हैं। अनेक लोग तुलसीजी और शालिग्रामजी की 108 परिक्रमाएं भी करते हैं। ऐसा माना जाता है की दोनों का विवाह रचा करके अक्षय पुण्य की प्राप्ति होती है।

व्रत पूजन की कथा

प्राचीन काल में भगवान शिव के तेज से उत्पन्न जालंधर नाम का एक अत्यंत पराक्रमी असुर था। उसकी पत्नी वृंदा भगवान विष्णु की परम भक्त थी और अखंड पतिव्रता थी। उसके पातिव्रत के तेज से जालंधर अजय हो गया था और अत्यंत अभिमानी हो गया था। उसने अपने अहंकार और अत्याचार से तीनों लोकों को त्रस्त कर रखा था तथा स्त्रियों और कन्याओं को परेशान करता था। दुःखी होकर सभी देवता भगवान विष्णु की शरण में गए और जालंधर के आतंक को समाप्त करने की प्रार्थना करने लगे। भगवान विष्णु ने माया से जालंधर का रूप धारण कर लिया और छल से वृंदा के पातिव्रत धर्म को नष्ट कर दिया। इससे जालंधर की शक्ति क्षीण हो गई और वह युद्ध में मारा गया।

जब वृंदा को भगवान विष्णु के छल का पता चला, तो उसने अत्यंत क्रोधित होकर भगवान विष्णु को पत्थर का बन जाने और पत्नी वियोग से पीड़ित हो जाने का श्राप दे दिया। देवताओं की प्रार्थना पर वृंदा ने अपना श्राप वापस ले लिया, लेकिन भगवान विष्णु वृंदा के साथ किए हुए छल पर लज्जित थे, अतः वृंदा के शाप को जीवित रखने के लिए भगवान विष्णु ने अपना एक रूप पत्थर में प्रकट किया जो की शालिग्राम कहलाया।

भगवान विष्णु को दिए श्राप को वापस लेने के बाद वृंदा जालंधर के साथ सती हो गई। वृंदा के मृत शरीर की राख से तुलसी का पौधा निकला। फिर वृंदा की मर्यादा और पवित्रता को बनाए रखने के लिए देवताओं ने भगवान विष्णु के शालिग्राम रूप का विवाह तुलसी से कराया। और तुलसी को वरदान दिया कि भगवान विष्णु और उनके अवतारों के पूजन भोग में तुलसी दल अनिवार्य रहेगी। और तुलसी की पवित्रता गंगा के समान पुण्यदायी मानी जायेगी। इसी दिन की याद में प्रतिवर्ष कार्तिक शुक्ल एकादशी तिथि को तुलसी का विवाह शालिग्राम के साथ कराया जाता है।

Introduction

Tulsi Vivah holds special significance in Sanatan Dharma. It is also called Dev Uthani Ekadashi. It is celebrated every year on the Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. On this day, the marriage of Mother Tulsi and Lord Vishnu in the form of Shaligram is performed. On this day, all the people consider Tulsi as a giver of good fortune and worship her and perform fasting rituals. The festival of Tulsi Vivah is prevalent all over India, but it is especially celebrated in North India.

The sins of many ages are destroyed by the sight, touch, meditation, worship, application and irrigation of Mother Tulsi. Mother Tulsi is blessed with the blessings of being as pure as the Ganges, destroyer of sins, giver of good fortune, and eradicating diseases.

Importance of Tulsi Vivah

It is believed that on the Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month, Lord Vishnu wakes up from his four-month yogic sleep. Therefore, it is known as Devuthani Ekadashi or Prabodhini Ekadashi. This Ekadashi has a very important place among all the Ekadashis of the year. Because according to Hindu scriptures, no auspicious or mangal work is done during the Chaturmas of the rainy season. Therefore, all the mangal works start with Tulsi Vivah on this day. It is believed that whoever organizes Tulsi Vivah and worship in his house, all the troubles and troubles go away from his house. Wealth and prosperity increase, and Mother Lakshmi becomes a permanent abode.

Time and method of Tulsi marriage worship

In the year 2024, Tulsi marriage will be solemnized on 12th November 2024, Tuesday, during the evening Pradosh period. There is a rule of fasting in Tulsi Vivah, in which food is not consumed and only fruits are eaten. Usually, people of Vaishno sect perform the marriage of Tulsi and Shaligram. New clothes, makeup items, sacred thread, jewelry etc. are offered to Tulsi pot and Shaligram.

After consecration of the idol of Lord Vishnu, it is decorated with clothes and jewellery and taken to the Tulsi Chaubara with full respect and reverence with music and dance. Then after worshipping the place in a proper manner, the marriage is solemnized. On this occasion, women sing auspicious songs of marriage. They do puja and aarti etc. After that, they end the fast by offering food. Many people also do 108 parikramas of Tulsi and Shaligram. It is believed that by marrying both, one gets eternal virtue.

Story of fast worship

In ancient times, there was a very powerful demon named Jalandhar born from the radiance of Lord Shiva. His wife Vrinda was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu and was a devoted wife. Jalandhar had become invincible and very arrogant due to the radiance of her devotion to her husband. He had troubled the three worlds with his arrogance and atrocities and used to harass women and girls. Saddened, all the gods went to Lord Vishnu and prayed to end Jalandhar’s terror. Lord Vishnu took the form of Jalandhar through Maya and destroyed Vrinda’s chastity. This weakened Jalandhar’s power and he was killed in the war.

When Vrinda came to know about Lord Vishnu’s deceit, she became very angry and cursed Lord Vishnu to turn into stone and suffer from the separation from his wife. On the prayers of the gods, Vrinda took back her curse, but Lord Vishnu was ashamed of the deceit done with Vrinda, so to keep Vrinda’s curse alive, Lord Vishnu manifested one of his forms in stone which was called Shaligram.

After taking back the curse given to Lord Vishnu, Vrinda became Sati with Jalandhar. Tulsi plant emerged from the ashes of Vrinda’s dead body. Then to maintain the dignity and purity of Vrinda, the gods got Lord Vishnu’s Shaligram form married to Tulsi. And gave a boon to Tulsi that Tulsi leaves will be mandatory in the worship of Lord Vishnu and his incarnations. And the purity of Tulsi will be considered as virtuous as Ganga. In memory of this day, every year on Kartik Shukla Ekadashi, Tulsi is married to Shaligram.
