अनन्त चतुर्दशी का व्रत और महात्म्य(Hindi & English)
हमारे देश में विशेष तौर पर उत्तर भारत में अनन्त चतुर्दशी का त्यौहार पूरी श्रद्धा के साथ मनाया जाता है। यह त्यौहार मूलतः भगवान श्रीहरि विष्णुजी को समर्पित है। इस दिन लोग सुख, सौभाग्य और स्वास्थ्य की रक्षा और जीवन में शान्ति के लिए भगवान अनन्त यानि श्रीहरि विष्णुजी का व्रत और पूजन करते हैं। इस दिन प्रातः काल के समय ही व्रत का संकल्प लिया जाता है। फिर इस पर्व का पूजन दोपहर में किया जाता है। इसमें भगवान श्री हरी विष्णुजी की पीले फूल, फल, मिठाई, पीले अक्षत, धूप-दीप और नैवेद्य द्वारा पंचोपचार पूजन करके, उनके समक्ष 14 ग्रंथि युक्त अनन्त सूत्र जो कि बाजार में पीले धागे या चांदी के रूप में मिलता है, वह रखा जाता है। फिर भगवान से सुख, समृद्धि और शान्ति की कामना की जाती है। लोग पूजन के बाद कथा का श्रवण करते हैं और अनन्त सूत्र को अपनी बाँह में बांधते हैं। फिर ब्राह्मणदेव को उत्तम दान-दक्षिणा देकर स्वयं बिना नमक का भोजन करते हैं।
01. कब मनाई जाती है अनन्त चतुर्दशी?
प्रत्येक वर्ष के भाद्रपद मास की शुक्ल पक्ष की चतुर्दशी तिथि को अनन्त चतुर्दशी मनाई जाती है। इस दिन भगवान श्रीहरि विष्णुजी के अनन्त रूप की पूजा की जाती है।
02. क्यों मनाई जाती है अनन्त चतुर्दशी?
अग्नि पुराण में अनन्त चतुर्दशी व्रत के महत्व का वर्णन किया गया है। इसे भगवान श्रीहरि विष्णुजी के अनन्त अवतरण के रूप में भी देखा जाता है। सृष्टि के प्रारम्भ में जब ब्रह्माजी ने पृथ्वी सहित 14 लोकों की रचना की तब उन लोकों का पालन करने के लिए विष्णु भगवान ने 14 रूपों का विस्तार लिया था, जिसके कारण उनके आदि-अंत का ज्ञान नहीं हो पा रहा था और वह अनन्त रूप में दिख रहे थे। उस दिन भाद्रपद मास की चतुर्दशी तिथि थी। इसलिए इस दिन का नाम अनन्त चतुर्दशी पड़ा।
03. अनन्त चतुर्दशी पर्व की शुरुआत हुई कब से हुई?
पौराणिक मान्यताओं के अनुसार, महाभारत काल से अनन्त चतुर्दशी व्रत करने की शुरुआत हुई। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि जब पांडव जुए में अपना सर्वस्व हारकर जंगलो और वनों में भटक रहे थे, तब भगवान श्रीकृष्ण उनसे मिलने आये। पांडवों की दुर्दशा देखकर भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने उन्हें भगवान श्रीहरी विष्णुजी के अनन्त रूप की पूजा करने की सलाह दी। तब युधिष्ठिर ने श्रीकृष्ण से पूछा कि अनन्त भगवान कौन हैं ? तब श्रीकृष्ण ने बताया कि यह भगवान श्रीहरि विष्णुजी के ही रूप हैं। चतुर्मास में भगवान श्रीहरि विष्णुजी शेषनाग की शैय्या पर अनन्त शयन में रहते हैं। अनन्त भगवान ने ही वामन अवतार में 2 पग में 3 लोक नाप लिए थे, जिनके ना आदि का पता चलता है और ना अंत का। यह सुनकर पांडवों ने सपरिवार पूरे विधि-विधान से व्रत पूजन किया। जिसके परिणाम स्वरूप वे लोग महाभारत युद्ध में विजय को प्राप्त हुए और उन्हें उनका राजपाट वापस मिला। इसलिए यह पर्व भगवान श्रीहरि विष्णुजी को प्रसन्न करने और अनन्त फल देने वाला माना गया है। इस दिन व्रत रखकर श्री विष्णु सहस्त्रनाम स्तोत्र का पाठ करने से अनन्त मनोकामनाओं की पूर्ति होती है। सुख, सम्पदा, धन-धान्य, सन्तान आदि में वृद्धि होती है।
04. वर्ष 2024 में कब है अनन्त चतुर्दशी का व्रत?
वर्ष 2024 में अनन्त चतुर्दशी का व्रत शुभ दिन मंगलवार, दिनांक 17 सितंबर को है। तथा पूजन मुहूर्त प्रातः 06 बजकर 07 मिनट से दिन में 11:46 मिनट तक रहेगा।
05. क्या है अनन्त चतुर्दशी व्रत की कथा?
प्राचीन काल में सुमन्तु नामक ऋषि हुए थे जिनकी अत्यंत गुणवती शीला नाम की पुत्री थी जो की परम् श्रीहरि विष्णुजी की भक्त थी। उसका विवाह भी भगवान विष्णु भक्त कौण्डिन्य मुनि से हुआ। शीला सदैव भाद्र पद की चतुर्दशी को भगवान अनन्त नारायण का पूजन कर उनके 14 रूपों के प्रतीक के रूप में पीले रंग के धागे में 14 गांठें लगाकर अपने हाथ में पहन लेती थी। इससे उसके घर में सुख सौभाग्य की वृद्धि होने लगी और उनका जीवन सुखमय हो गया। एक बार क्रोधवश ऋषि कौण्डिन्य ने अपनी धर्मपत्नी शीला के हाथ का मंगलसूत्र तोड़कर फेंक दिया था। उस दिन के बाद से उनके घर में दुःख और दुर्भाग्य ने अपना डेरा डाल लिया। एक बार अत्यंत दुःख और विपन्नावस्था में ऋषि कौण्डिन्य वन में गए और भगवान श्रीहरि विष्णुजी की तपस्या करने लगे। उनकी तपस्या से प्रसन्न होकर भगवान प्रकट हुए और अनन्त चतुर्दशी की व्रत उपासना का महात्म्य समझाकर पूजन पुनः शुरू करने का आदेश दिया। घर लौटकर ऋषि कौण्डिन्य ने पत्नी शीला के साथ भली भांति पूजन किया, और खोये हुए सुख सौभाग्य की प्राप्ति की। अनन्त चतुर्दशी के दिन ही गणेश मूर्ति विसर्जन किया जाता है, इसलिए भी इस पर्व का महत्व और भी बढ़ जाता है।

In our country, especially in North India, the festival of Anant Chaturdashi is celebrated with full devotion. This festival is basically dedicated to Lord Shri Hari Vishnu. On this day, people observe fast and worship Lord Anant i.e. Shri Hari Vishnu for happiness, good fortune, protection of health and peace in life. On this day, the resolution of fasting is taken in the morning itself. Then the worship of this festival is done in the afternoon. In this, Panchopchar worship of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu is done with yellow flowers, fruits, sweets, yellow rice, incense sticks and offerings, and in front of him, the Anant Sutra with 14 knots, which is available in the market in the form of yellow thread or silver, is kept. Then the Lord is prayed for happiness, prosperity and peace. After the worship, people listen to the story and tie the Anant Sutra on their arm. Then after giving excellent donations to the Brahmin, they themselves eat food without salt.

Anant Chaturdashi is celebrated on the Chaturdashi date of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month every year. On this day, the Anant form of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu is worshipped.
02. Why is Anant Chaturdashi celebrated?
The importance of Anant Chaturdashi fast has been described in Agni Purana. It is also seen as the infinite incarnation of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu. In the beginning of creation, when Brahmaji created 14 worlds including the earth, then Lord Vishnu took 14 forms to look after those worlds, due to which his beginning and end could not be known and he was seen in infinite form. That day was Chaturdashi Tithi of Bhadrapada month. Therefore, this day was named Anant Chaturdashi.
03. When did the Anant Chaturdashi festival begin?
According to mythological beliefs, the Anant Chaturdashi fast started from the Mahabharata period. It is said that when the Pandavas were wandering in the jungles and forests after losing everything in gambling, Lord Krishna came to meet them. Seeing the plight of the Pandavas, Lord Krishna advised them to worship the Anant form of Lord Vishnu. Then Yudhishthira asked Lord Krishna who is Anant Bhagwan? Then Lord Krishna told that this is the form of Lord Vishnu. In Chaturmas, Lord Vishnu rests in Anant Shayyan on the bed of Sheshnag. Anant Bhagwan had measured 3 worlds in 2 steps in the Vamana avatar, whose beginning and end are not known. Hearing this, the Pandavas along with their families performed the fast and worship with full rituals. As a result, they won the Mahabharata war and got their kingdom back. Therefore, this festival is considered to please Lord Vishnu and give infinite fruits. By fasting on this day and reciting Shri Vishnu Sahasranama Stotra, infinite desires are fulfilled. There is an increase in happiness, wealth, money, children etc.

In the year 2024, the auspicious day for Anant Chaturdashi fast is Tuesday, 17 September. And the puja muhurta will be from 06:07 am to 11:46 pm.
05. What is the story of Anant Chaturdashi Vrat?
In ancient times, there was a sage named Sumantu who had a very talented daughter named Sheela who was a devotee of Param Shri Hari Vishnu. She was also married to Lord Vishnu devotee Koundinya Muni. Sheela always worshipped Lord Anant Narayan on the Chaturdashi of Bhadrapad and used to wear a yellow thread with 14 knots as a symbol of his 14 forms on her hand. Due to this, happiness and good fortune started increasing in her house and their life became happy. Once, in anger, Sage Koundinya broke the mangalsutra from the hand of his wife Sheela and threw it away. From that day onwards, sorrow and misfortune camped in their house. Once in great sorrow and misery, Sage Koundinya went to the forest and started doing penance of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu. Pleased with his penance, God appeared and explained the significance of fasting and worship on Anant Chaturdashi and ordered him to restart the worship. Returning home, Sage Kaundinya performed the worship properly with his wife Sheela, and regained the lost happiness and good fortune. Ganesh idol is immersed on the day of Anant Chaturdashi, hence the importance of this festival increases even more.
