उत्तर भारत में विवाहिता स्त्रियों के द्वारा किये जाने वाले सभी व्रत और उपवासों में से हरतालिका तीज व्रत प्रमुख व्रतों में से एक है। हालांकि इस व्रत को अविवाहित कन्याएं भी सुयोग्य वर की प्राप्ति हेतु करती हैं। विवाहित स्त्रियां इस व्रत को अपने पति और परिवार के दीर्घायु और समृद्धि में बढ़ोतरी के लिए करती हैं।
कब और क्यों किया जाता है हरतालिका तीज व्रत?
मान्यता है कि इस व्रत को सबसे पहले माता पार्वती नें भगवान शंकर को पति रूप में पाने के लिए कठोर तपस्या के रूप में किया था। हरतालिका तीज व्रत करने से महिलाओं को अखंड सौभाग्य की प्राप्ति होती है। यह व्रत भाद्रपद मास के शुक्ल पक्ष की तृतीया तिथि को किया जाता है। इस व्रत में माँ पार्वती और भगवान शिव की पूजा-उपासना की जाती है। उनसे अपने पति और परिवार के कल्याण की कामना की जाती है।
कैसे किया जाता है ये व्रत?
अनेक स्त्रियां इस दिन निर्जला उपवास रखती हैं। व्रत के एक दिन पहले से ही भोजन में मसाले, लहसुन, प्याज का त्याग कर दिया जाता है। फिर तीज वाले दिन स्त्रियाँ प्रातः काल से ही संकल्प लेकर 24 घण्टों का निर्जला उपवास रखती हैं। और प्रातः गणपति पूजन के साथ व्रत का प्रारम्भ करती हैं। इस दिन महिलाएं सोलह श्रृंगार करके नवीन वस्त्र धारण करती हैं। और माँ पार्वती और शिव के पूजन हेतु विभिन्न मिष्ठान्नों का भोग तैयार करती हैं।
हरतालिका तीज की मुख्य पूजा संध्या को प्रदोष काल में की जाती है। सूर्यास्त के बाद के 2 घण्टों के समयावधि को प्रदोष काल कहते हैं। इस समय मंडप आदि बनाकर शिव पार्वती और गणेश को स्थापित किया जाता है। फिर फल, फूल, धूप, दीप, फल, मिष्टान्न, नैवेद्य ,वस्त्र, सोलह सिंगार और दक्षिणा आदि से षोडशोपचार पूजा की जाती है। कई स्थानों में रात्रि जागरण किया जाता है और गौरा, गणेश , शिव की रात्रि भर भजन, कीर्तन और उपासना की जाती है। दूसरे दिन पूजन , आरती के बाद देवताओं की विदाई की जाती है और व्रत का पारण किया जाता है।
2024 में कब है हरतालिका तीज व्रत?
हालांकि तृतीया तिथि 5 सितंबर को दोपहर 12 बजकर 21 मिनट से प्रारम्भ हो रही, लेकिन सूर्योदय व्यापिनी उदया तिथि की मान्यता के कारण यह पर्व 6 सितंबर को मनाया जाएगा। चूंकि 6 सितंबर को दोपहर 3 बजे के बाद चतुर्थी तिथि प्रारम्भ हो जाएगी, इसलिए इस बार तीज पूजन मुहूर्त प्रातः 6 बजे से 9:30 तक रहेगा। लोग यदि चाहें तो शाम के पूजन के शुभ चौघड़िया मुहूर्त शाम 5 बजे से 6:36 तक के बीच भी पूजन कर सकते हैं। किंतु तीज पूजन के समय हस्त नक्षत्र की उपस्थिति अनिवार्य है, इसलिए इस बार प्रदोष पूजन के बजाय प्रातः पूजन अधिक महत्वपूर्ण है।
क्या है हरतालिका व्रत की पौराणिक कथा?
हरतालिका तीज व्रत भगवान शिव और माता पार्वती के पुनर्मिलन के उपलक्ष्य में मनाया जाता है। एक पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार माता पार्वती ने भगवान भोलेनाथ को पति के रूप में पाने के लिए कठोर तप किया था। हिमालय पर गंगा नदी के तट पर माता पार्वती ने भूखे-प्यासे रहकर तपस्या की। माता पार्वती की यह स्थिति देखकप उनके पिता हिमालय बेहद दुखी हुए। एक दिन महर्षि नारद भगवान विष्णु की ओर से पार्वती जी के विवाह का प्रस्ताव लेकर आए लेकिन जब माता पार्वती को इस बात का पता चला तो, वे विलाप करने लगी। एक सखी के पूछने पर उन्होंने बताया कि, वे भगवान शिव को पति के रूप में प्राप्त करने के लिए कठोर तप कर रही हैं। इसके बाद वे अपनी सखियों के साथ पिता का घर छोड़कर वन में चली गई और भगवान शिव की आराधना में लीन हो गई। चूंकि सखियां माता पार्वती को हर करके वन में ले गईं थीं, इस लिए इस व्रत का नाम हरतालिका तीज पड़ा।
इस दौरान भाद्रपद में शुक्ल पक्ष की तृतीया के दिन हस्त नक्षत्र में माता पार्वती ने रेत से शिवलिंग का निर्माण किया और भोलेनाथ की आराधना में मग्न होकर रात्रि जागरण किया। माता पार्वती के कठोर तप को देखकर भगवान शिव ने उन्हें दर्शन दिए और पार्वती जी की इच्छानुसार उन्हें पत्नी के रूप में स्वीकार किया।
तभी से अच्छे पति की कामना और पति की दीर्घायु के लिए कुंवारी कन्या और सौभाग्यवती स्त्रियां हरतालिका तीज का व्रत रखती हैं और भगवान शिव व माता पार्वती की पूजा-अर्चना कर आशीर्वाद प्राप्त करती हैं।

Hartalika Teej Vrat Mahatmya-
Among all the fasts and rituals performed by married women in North India, Hartalika Teej Vrat is one of the main fasts. However, unmarried girls also observe this fast to get a suitable groom. Married women observe this fast to increase the longevity and prosperity of their husband and family.
When and why is Hartalika Teej Vrat observed?
It is believed that this fast was first observed by Mother Parvati as a rigorous penance to get Lord Shankar as her husband. By observing Hartalika Teej Vrat, women get unbroken good fortune. This fast is observed on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. In this fast, Mother Parvati and Lord Shiva are worshipped. They are prayed for the welfare of their husband and family.
How is this fast observed?
Many women observe Nirjala fast on this day. Spices, garlic and onion are avoided in food a day before the fast. Then on the day of Teej, women take a pledge from the morning itself and keep a waterless fast for 24 hours. And start the fast with Ganpati Puja in the morning. On this day, women do sixteen adornments and wear new clothes. And prepare various sweets for the worship of Mother Parvati and Shiva.
The main worship of Hartalika Teej is done in the evening during Pradosh Kaal. The time period of 2 hours after sunset is called Pradosh Kaal. At this time, Shiva, Parvati and Ganesha are installed by making a pavilion etc. Then Shodashopachar Puja is done with fruits, flowers, incense, lamps, fruits, sweets, offerings, clothes, sixteen decorations and Dakshina etc. Ratri Jagran is done in many places and Gauri, Ganesha, Shiva are worshipped throughout the night by bhajans, kirtans and prayers. On the second day, after worship and aarti, the deities are bid farewell and the fast is observed.
When is Hartalika Teej Vrat in 2024?
Although Tritiya Tithi is starting on 5th September at 12:21 pm, but due to the belief of Sunrise Vyapini Udaya Tithi, this festival will be celebrated on 6th September. Since Chaturthi Tithi will start after 3 pm on September 6, this time the Teej Pujan Muhurta will be from 6 am to 9:30 am. If people wish, they can also worship during the auspicious Chaughadiya Muhurta of evening worship from 5 pm to 6:36 pm. But the presence of Hasta Nakshatra is mandatory at the time of Teej worship, so this time morning worship is more important than Pradosh worship.
What is the mythological story of Hartalika Vrat?
Hartalika Teej Vrat is celebrated to commemorate the reunion of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. According to a mythological story, Mother Parvati did severe penance to get Lord Bholenath as her husband. Mother Parvati did penance by staying hungry and thirsty on the banks of river Ganga in the Himalayas. Seeing this condition of Mother Parvati, her father Himalaya became very sad. One day Maharishi Narada brought a proposal of marriage of Parvati ji from Lord Vishnu, but when Mother Parvati came to know about this, she started lamenting. When a friend asked, she told that she is doing hard penance to get Lord Shiva as her husband. After this, she left her father’s house with her friends and went to the forest and got engrossed in the worship of Lord Shiva. Since the friends had defeated Mother Parvati and taken her to the forest, this fast was named Hartalika Teej.
During this time, on the third day of Shukla Paksha in Bhadrapada, in Hasta Nakshatra, Mother Parvati made a Shivling from sand and kept awake the night, engrossed in the worship of Bholenath. Seeing the hard penance of Mother Parvati, Lord Shiva appeared before her and accepted her as his wife as per Parvati’s wish.
Since then, unmarried girls and married women keep the fast of Hartalika Teej to wish for a good husband and for the long life of the husband and get blessings by worshiping Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati.
