भारत पर्वों और त्यौहारों की भूमि है। यहाँ प्रत्येक त्योहार किसी न किसी धार्मिक, सामाजिक और सांस्कृतिक दृष्टि से अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण होता है। इन्हीं में से एक प्रमुख त्योहार है गणेश चतुर्थी जिसे “विनायक चतुर्थी” या “विनायक चवथ” भी कहा जाता है। यह पर्व बुद्धि, ज्ञान, समृद्धि और विघ्नों को दूर करने वाले भगवान श्रीगणेश की पूजा का होता है। वर्ष 2025 में यह पावन पर्व 27 अगस्त, बुधवार को मनाया जाएगा। इस दिन श्रद्धालु भक्तजन गणपति बप्पा का विधि-विधान से पूजन करेंगे और दस दिनों तक हर्षोल्लास से उत्सव मनाकर अनंत चतुर्दशी को उन्हें विदाई देंगे।
गणेश चतुर्थी का महत्व
गणेश जी को “विघ्नहर्ता” और “सिद्धि विनायक” कहा जाता है। कोई भी शुभ कार्य हो, विवाह, गृहप्रवेश, परीक्षा, व्यवसाय की शुरुआत या धार्मिक अनुष्ठान – सभी में सर्वप्रथम गणेश पूजन का विधान है। इस दिन गणेश जी का जन्मोत्सव मनाया जाता है। धार्मिक मान्यता के अनुसार भाद्रपद मास के शुक्ल पक्ष की चतुर्थी को माता पार्वती ने बाल गणेश को जन्म दिया था। तभी से यह दिन गणेश चतुर्थी के रूप में मनाया जाता है।

यह समय “मध्याह्न काल” का है, जो गणेश पूजन के लिए सर्वश्रेष्ठ माना जाता है।
गणेश जी की उपासना विधि
गणेश चतुर्थी पर प्रातः स्नान के पश्चात व्रत का संकल्प लेकर भगवान गणेश की प्रतिमा स्थापित की जाती है।
1. प्रतिमा स्थापना – मिट्टी की गणेश प्रतिमा को लकड़ी के पाटे या चौकी पर लाल वस्त्र बिछाकर स्थापित करें।
2. आवाहन – भगवान गणेश का ध्यान कर धूप, दीप, अक्षत और फूल अर्पित करें।
3. श्रृंगार और पूजा – गणपति को दूर्वा घास, लाल फूल, मोदक और लड्डू अर्पित करें।
4. आरती – गणेश जी की आरती करके व्रत कथा का पाठ करें।
5. भोग – गणपति को मोदक, गुड़, नारियल और फल अर्पित करें।
गणेश चतुर्थी की कथा
प्राचीन ग्रंथों के अनुसार, एक बार माता पार्वती ने स्नान करने से पहले अपने शरीर के उबटन से एक बालक की प्रतिमा बनाई और उसमें प्राण प्रतिष्ठा कर दी। उन्होंने उसे द्वार पर बैठाकर कहा कि कोई अंदर न आए। उसी समय भगवान शिव वहाँ आए और जब उन्होंने भीतर प्रवेश करना चाहा, तो बालक गणेश ने उन्हें रोक दिया। इससे क्रोधित होकर शिव ने उनका सिर काट दिया। माता पार्वती को जब यह ज्ञात हुआ तो वे विलाप करने लगीं। उन्हें शांत करने के लिए भगवान शिव ने गणेश के शरीर पर हाथी का सिर लगाकर उन्हें पुनः जीवित किया। उसी दिन से गणेश को “गजानन” और “विघ्नहर्ता” के रूप में पूजा जाने लगा।
सामाजिक और सांस्कृतिक महत्व
गणेश चतुर्थी का उत्सव केवल धार्मिक दृष्टि से ही नहीं, बल्कि सामाजिक और सांस्कृतिक रूप से भी महत्वपूर्ण है।
लोकमान्य बाल गंगाधर तिलक ने स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन के समय इस पर्व को जन-आंदोलन का स्वरूप दिया। उन्होंने सामूहिक गणेशोत्सव की परंपरा की शुरुआत की, जिससे लोगों में एकता और देशभक्ति की भावना जागृत हुई।
आज भी महाराष्ट्र, गोवा, कर्नाटक, आंध्रप्रदेश और पूरे भारत में बड़े-बड़े पंडाल सजाकर गणपति की भव्य प्रतिमाओं की स्थापना की जाती है।
लोग मिलकर सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रम, भजन-कीर्तन, नृत्य और समाजसेवा कार्य आयोजित करते हैं।
गणेश चतुर्थी पर व्रत और नियम
भक्तजन इस दिन व्रत रखते हैं और केवल फलाहार या एक समय भोजन करते हैं।
व्रती को दिनभर संयम, सत्य और अहिंसा का पालन करना चाहिए।
दूर्वा घास और मोदक गणेश जी के प्रिय माने जाते हैं, अतः इन्हें अर्पित करना अनिवार्य है।
प्रतिमा विसर्जन के दिन जलाशय में जाकर श्रद्धा और भक्ति के साथ “गणपति बप्पा मोरया, अगले बरस तू जल्दी आ” कहकर विदाई दी जाती है।
विशेषताएँ 2025 की गणेश चतुर्थी
वर्ष 2025 की गणेश चतुर्थी बुधवार को पड़ रही है। बुधवार स्वयं गणपति का दिन माना जाता है।
इस वर्ष का यह योग अत्यंत मंगलकारी होगा और विशेष फलदायी रहेगा।
ज्योतिषियों के अनुसार इस दिन गणपति की उपासना करने से बुद्धि, विवेक, धन और वैभव की वृद्धि होगी।
गणेश चतुर्थी का आध्यात्मिक संदेश
गणपति के बड़े कान हमें यह सिखाते हैं कि दूसरों की अच्छी बातों को ध्यान से सुनो।
उनकी छोटी आँखें एकाग्रता और गहराई का प्रतीक हैं।
बड़ा पेट धैर्य और सहनशीलता का प्रतीक है।
और उनका वाहन मूषक यह बताता है कि चाहे कोई कितना भी छोटा क्यों न हो, अगर समर्पित भाव से कार्य करे तो वह असंभव को भी संभव कर सकता है।

आज गणेश चतुर्थी केवल घरों और मंदिरों में नहीं, बल्कि विशाल सार्वजनिक स्तर पर भी मनाई जाती है।
पर्यावरण की रक्षा हेतु अब इको-फ्रेंडली गणेश प्रतिमाओं का प्रचलन बढ़ रहा है।
डिजिटल युग में ऑनलाइन पूजा, वर्चुअल आरती और लाइव प्रसारण भी होने लगे हैं।

One of the major festivals among these is Ganesh Chaturthi, which is also called “Vinayak Chaturthi” or “Vinayak Chavath”. Ganesh ji is called “Vighnaharta” and “Siddhi Vinayak”. Be it any auspicious work, marriage, housewarming, examination, start of business or religious ritual – Ganesh Puja is the first ritual in all. On this day, the birth anniversary of Ganesh ji is celebrated. According to religious belief, Mother Parvati gave birth to child Ganesh on the Chaturthi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. Since then this day is celebrated as Ganesh Chaturthi.

Method of worship of Ganesh ji
On Ganesh Chaturthi, after taking a bath in the morning, the idol of Lord Ganesha is installed after taking a vow of fasting.
1. Installation of the idol – Install the clay Ganesha idol on a wooden plank or stool by spreading a red cloth.
2. Invocation – Meditate on Lord Ganesha and offer incense, lamp, rice and flowers.
3. Shringar and Puja – Offer durva grass, red flowers, modak and laddu to Ganpati.
4. Aarti – Perform the aarti of Ganesha and recite the Vrat Katha.
5. Bhog – Offer modak, jaggery, coconut and fruits to Ganpati.
The story of Ganesh Chaturthi
According to ancient texts, once Mother Parvati made a statue of a child from the paste of her body before taking a bath and consecrated it. She made him sit at the door and said that no one should come inside. At the same time Lord Shiva came there and when he wanted to enter inside, the child Ganesha stopped him. Angered by this, Shiva cut off his head. When Mother Parvati came to know about this, she started wailing. To calm him down, Lord Shiva revived Ganesha by placing an elephant’s head on his body. From that day onwards, Ganesha started being worshipped as “Gajanan” and “Vighnaharta”.
Social and cultural significance
The celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi is important not only from a religious point of view, but also from a social and cultural point of view.
Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak gave this festival the form of a mass movement during the freedom movement. He started the tradition of collective Ganeshotsav, which awakened the feeling of unity and patriotism among the people.
Even today, in Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and all over India, grand idols of Ganpati are installed by decorating big pandals.
People together organize cultural programs, bhajan-kirtan, dance and social service work.
Fasting and rules on Ganesh Chaturthi
Devotees observe fast on this day and eat only fruits or one meal a day.
The person observing the fast should follow restraint, truth and non-violence throughout the day.
Durva grass and modak are considered to be the favourites of Ganesha, hence it is mandatory to offer them.
On the day of idol immersion, the idol is bid farewell by going to the water body with reverence and devotion by saying “Ganpati Bappa Morya, next year you come soon”.
