हमारे पितर कौन हैं? एक परिचय (Hindi & English)

परिभाषा-

अक्सर हम अपने पूर्वजों या घर-परिवार के गुजर गए लोगों को “पितर” मान लेते हैं। लेकिन “पितरों” का परिचय एक विस्तृत विषय है। वस्तुतः पितर समस्त लोकों की चौरासी लाख योनियों में से एक योनि है। पितर विभिन्न लोकों में रहने वाली वें दिव्य आत्माएं और सामान्य जीवात्माएं हैं, जिनसे देवता और मनुष्य की उतपत्ति हुई है। पितर देवताओं की तरह ही शक्तिशाली और पुण्यफलदायी होते हैं। संतुष्ट और प्रसन्न होने पर अपने कुल को सुख, समृद्धि, सन्तति, धन और यश प्रदान करते हैं। जबकि अप्रसन्न होने पर सभी प्रकार के सुख छीन भी लेते हैं। इनकी प्रसन्नता के बिना हमें देवताओं और नवग्रहों का भी आशीर्वाद नहीं प्राप्त हो सकता। एक सम्पूर्ण लोक ही पितरों के लिए समर्पित किया गया है।

परिचय-

मनुस्मृति में पितरों के सम्बंध में कहा गया है कि पितर ब्रह्मा जी के पुत्र मनु हैं और मनु के जो अत्रि, मरीचि, पुलत्स्य आदि ऋषि पुत्र हैं, उनके सभी संतानें ही पितृगण कहे गए हैं।

मनुस्मृति में श्लोक है कि-

“ऋषिभ्यः पितरो जाता: पितृभे देवमानवा:।
देवेभ्यस्तु जगत्सर्वे चरं स्थाण्वनुपूर्वश:।।”

अर्थात् , ऋषियों से पितर उत्पन्न हुए हैं। पितरों से देवता और मनुष्य उत्तपन्न हुए हैं। देवताओं से ये सम्पूर्ण जगत निर्मित हुआ है।

पितरों के प्रकार-

मनुस्मृति, पद्मपुराण, मत्स्यपुराण, ब्रह्मवैवर्त पुराण आदि में पितरों की कई श्रेणियां बताई गई हैं। पर मूलतः हम पितरों को दो श्रेणियों में विभक्त कर सकते हैं।

(अ) दिव्य पितर
(ब) पूर्वज पितर

(अ) दिव्य पितर-

दिव्य पितर वें पितर हैं जिनसे देवताओं और मनुष्यों की उत्पत्ति हुई है। ये सभी बहुत तेजस्वी और देवताओं के समान ही शक्तिशाली होते हैं। देवता भी इनका पूजन करते हैं। ये योगियों के योग को बढ़ाते है और आध्यात्मिक उन्नति देते हैं। इनके लिए विशेष रूप से श्राद्ध कर्म किया जाता है।

दिव्य पितरों के भी सात प्रकार कहे गए हैं-

01. अग्निष्वात- इनकी उत्पत्ति मनु के पुत्र महर्षि मरीचि से हुई है। ये अत्यंत दिव्य और पूज्य हैं। ये देवताओं के पितर माने जाते हैं।

02. बहिर्षद- इनकी उत्पत्ति महर्षि अत्रि से हुई है। ये देव, दानव, यक्ष, गन्धर्व, किन्नरों, सर्प, राक्षस, गरुड़ आदि के पितर हैं।

03. सोमसद- सोमसद महर्षि विराट के वंशज हैं। ये साधुओं और साधकों के पितर माने जाते हैं।

04. सोमपा- ये पितर महर्षि भृगु से उत्तपन्न हुए हैं। ये ब्राह्मणों के पितर माने जाते हैं।

05. हविष्मान- ये महर्षि अंगिरा के पुत्र हैं। इन्हें हविर्भुज भी कहते हैं। इन्हें क्षत्रियों का पितर कहा जाता है।

06. आज्यपा- यह महर्षि पुलत्स्य से उत्तपन्न हुए हैं। इन्हे वैश्यों का पितर कहा जाता है।

07. सुकालि- सुकालि महर्षि वसिष्ठ के पुत्र कहे गए हैं। यह शूद्रों के पितर कहे गए हैं।

उपर्युक्त सात प्रमुख दिव्य पितरों के अतिरिक्त और भी दिव्य पितर हैं। उदाहरण के लिए- “अग्निदग्ध”, “अनाग्निदग्ध”, “काव्य”, “सौम्य” इत्यादि।

(ब) पूर्वज पितर

इस श्रेणी में वें पितर शामिल होते हैं जो किसी परिवार या कुल के पूर्वज हैं, जिनसे कुल या कोई वंश उत्तपन्न हुआ हो। इन्हीं का एकोदिष्ट श्राद्ध, पिंड या तर्पण इत्यादि होता है।

इनकी भी मुख्यतः 2 श्रेणियां हैं।

01. सपिंड पितर
02. लेपभाग भोजी पितर

01. सपिंड पितर-

मृत पिता, दादा, परदादा ये तीन पीढ़ी तक के पूर्वज सपिण्ड पितर कहलाते हैं। ये पितर पिण्डभागी होते हैं।

02. लेपभाग भोजी पितर-

ये सपिण्ड पितरों से ऊपर तीन पीढ़ी तक के पितर होते हैं। जिनका निवास चंद्रलोक से ऊपर पितृलोक में होता है।

उपर्युक्त वर्गीकरण के अलावा “संतुष्ट और असंतुष्ट”, “उग्र और सौम्य पितर”, “ऊर्ध्वगति और अधोगति” वाले पितरों की श्रेणियां भी होती हैं।

Definition-

Often we consider our ancestors or the deceased members of our family as “ancestors”. But the introduction of “ancestors” is a vast subject. Actually, ancestors are one of the 84 lakh species of all the worlds. The ancestors are those divine souls and ordinary living souls living in different worlds, from which gods and humans have originated. The ancestors are as powerful and virtuous as the gods. When satisfied and happy, they provide happiness, prosperity, progeny, wealth and fame to their clan. Whereas when unhappy, they snatch away all kinds of happiness. Without their happiness, we cannot get the blessings of the gods and the nine planets. An entire world has been dedicated to the ancestors.

Introduction-

In Manusmriti, it is said about Pitras that Manu is the son of Brahma and all the children of Manu like Atri, Marichi, Pulatsya etc. are called Pitragan.

Manusmriti has a verse that-

“Rishibhyah Pitaro Jaata: Pitrbhe Devamanava:|

Devebhyastu Jagatsarve Charam Sthaanvanu Purvasha:||”

That is, Pitras are born from Rishis. Gods and humans are born from Pitras.

This entire world is created from Gods.

Types of Pitras-

Many categories of Pitras have been mentioned in Manusmriti, Padmapuran, Matsyapuran, Brahmavaivart Purana etc. But basically we can divide Pitras into two categories.

(A) Divine Pitras

(B) Ancestor Pitras

(A) Divine Pitras-

Divya Pitras are those Pitras from whom Gods and Humans originated. All of them are very radiant and powerful like Gods. Gods also worship them. They increase the yoga of Yogis and give spiritual progress. Shraddha Karma is specially performed for them.

There are seven types of Divine Pitras-

01. Agnishwat- They originated from Maharishi Marichi, son of Manu. They are extremely divine and worshipable. They are considered to be the Pitras of Gods.

02. Bahishad- They originated from Maharishi Atri. These are the ancestors of Devas, Danavas, Yakshas, ​​Gandharvas, Kinnars, snakes, demons, Garuda etc.

03. Somasad- Somasad is the descendant of Maharishi Virat. He is considered to be the ancestors of sadhus and sadhaks.

04. Sompa- These ancestors are born from Maharishi Bhrigu. They are considered to be the ancestors of Brahmins.

05. Havisman- He is the son of Maharishi Angira. He is also called Havirbhuj. He is called the ancestor of Kshatriyas.

06. Ajyapa- He is born from Maharishi Pulatsya. He is called the ancestor of Vaishyas.

07. Sukali- Sukali is said to be the son of Maharishi Vasishtha. He is said to be the ancestor of Shudras.

Apart from the above mentioned seven major divine ancestors, there are other divine ancestors too. For example- “Agnidagdh”, “Anaagnidagdh”, “Kavya”, “Saumya” etc.

(b) Ancestor Pitras

This category includes those Pitras who are the ancestors of a family or clan, from whom a clan or a lineage has originated. It is for them that Ekodishta Shraddha, Pind or Tarpan etc. is performed.

There are mainly 2 categories of these too.

01. Sapinda Pitras

02. Lepbhag Bhoji Pitras

01. Sapinda Pitras

The ancestors up to three generations like dead father, grandfather, great grandfather are called Sapinda Pitras. These Pitras are Pindbhagi.

02. Lepbhag Bhoji Pitras

These are the ancestors up to three generations above Sapinda Pitras. Whose residence is in Pitralok above Chandralok.

Apart from the above classification, there are also categories of Pitras with “satisfied and dissatisfied”, “fierce and gentle Pitras”, “upward and downward movement”.
