यह पावन व्रत ज्येष्ठ मास के कृष्णपक्ष की त्रयोदशी से अमावस्या अथवा पूर्णिमा तक करने का विधान है। यह स्त्रियों के अखंड सौभाग्य से सम्बंधित व्रत पर्व है। मुख्यतः इस व्रत को विवाहिता महिलाएं करती हैं, परन्तु अनेक जगहों पर कुमारी कन्याएं भी इस व्रत और पूजन को करती हैं। सावित्री और सत्यवान की पौराणिक कथा पर ही आधारित है यह व्रत। क्योंकि सावित्री नें वटवृक्ष का पूजन और व्रत करके ही अपने सतीत्व और कठोर तप के बल से अपने मृत पति सत्यवान को यमराज से जीतकर पुनः जीवित करवा लिया था। यही कारण है कि इस व्रत का नाम वट सावित्री पड़ा। शास्त्रों के अनुसार वट यानी बरगद के पेड़ के जड़ में ब्रह्मा, मध्य में विष्णु और अग्र भाग में भगवान शिव निवास करते हैं। इसलिए भी हमारे सनातन धर्म मे इस वृक्ष को इतना पवित्र माना गया है।

01. कब है वट सावित्री व्रत-पर्व?

इस वर्ष 2025 में वट सावित्री व्रत पर्व दिन सोमवार, दिनांक 26 मई 2025 को मनाया जाएगा।

02. व्रत कथा?

प्राचीन काल में सावित्री मद्र देश की राजकुमारी थीं। युवा होने पर सावित्री का विवाह उनके पिता राजा अश्वपति की इच्छानुसार सत्यवान से हो गया। विवाह से पूर्व देवऋषि नारद नें सावित्री से कहा था कि उसका पति सत्यवान केवल एक वर्ष तक ही जीवित रहेगा और इसका राज पाट भी चला जाएगा, तो इससे विवाह मत कर। किंतु सावित्री सत्यवान को पति के रूप में स्वीकार कर चुकी थी, इसलिए उन्होंने अपने मन से अंगीकार हुए पति का त्याग नहीं किया। सावित्री ने 01 वर्ष तक पतिव्रत धर्म का पालन किया। उसने पूरे तन-मन-धन से नेत्रहीन सास ससुर और अल्प-आयु पति की सेवा की।

एक वर्ष की समाप्ति के दिन सत्यवान जब प्रतिदिन की तरह जंगल से लड़कियां लेने गए तो सावित्री भी साथ में गई। वहां पर एक सर्प ने सत्यवान को डस लिया। वह बेहोश होकर गिर पड़ा। तभी वहां यमराज प्रकट हुए और सत्यवान के प्राण लेकर जाने लगे। यह देख सावित्री भी उनके साथ चल दीं। यमराज के लाख समझाने पर भी वह दृढ़ता के साथ डटी रहीं, और विनती करती रहीं कि या तो उन्हें भी यमलोक लेकर के जाएं अथवा उनके पति के प्राण वापस छोड़ दें। यमराज सावित्री के पतिव्रत धर्म को देखकर के अत्यंत प्रसन्न हुए और उन्होंने सावित्री से वरदान मांगने को कहा। सावित्री ने सास ससुर के लिए नेत्र, खोया हुआ राज्य और स्वयं के लिए 100 पुत्रों की माता होने का वरदान मांगा। अपने वचन में बंधे यमराज को उन्हें यह वरदान देना पड़ा और सत्यवान को फिर से जीवित करना पड़ा। सावित्री की इस पुण्य कथा को सुनने तथा पतिव्रत धर्म का पालन करने पर स्त्रियों के सभी मनोरथ सिद्ध होंगे और सभी विपत्तियां दूर होगी।

03. पूजन विधि विधान?

व्रत करने वाली महिलाओं को इस दिन प्रातःकाल नित्य कर्मों से निवृत होकर स्नान करके पवित्र और स्वच्छ वस्त्र धारण करने चाहिए। फिर जल से भरा एक पात्र लेकर वटवृक्ष के पास जाकर व्रत का संकल्प लेना चाहिए तथा पात्र का जल जड़ों में डाल देना चाहिए। वृक्ष के तने पर रोली चंदन आदि का टीका लगाकर चावल, गुड़, चना, फल और अन्य पकवान चढ़ा देना चाहिए। फिर मिट्टी से सत्यवान, सावित्री और यमराज की प्रतिमाओं का निर्माण करना चाहिए और उसपर धूप, दीप और नैवेद्य-पुष्पादि से पंचोपचार पूजा करना चाहिए। इसके पश्चात वृक्ष के तने के चारों ओर कच्चे सफेद सूत के धागों को हल्दी में रंगकर सात बार परिक्रमा करते हुए लपेट दें। और वृक्ष देवता से अपने पति के अखंड सौभाग्य और दीर्घायु की कामना करें। व्रत और पूजन के समापन के बाद ब्राह्मणों को घर बुलाकर भोजन कराएं तथा दान दक्षिणा आदि दें। अंत में सत्यवान और सावित्री की कथा सुनें।

This holy fast is to be observed from Trayodashi of Krishna Paksha of Jyeshtha month to Amavasya or Purnima. This is a fast festival related to the unbroken good fortune of women. Mainly married women observe this fast, but in many places unmarried girls also observe this fast and worship. This fast is based on the mythological story of Savitri and Satyavan. Because Savitri had brought her dead husband Satyavan back to life by winning him from Yamraj by the power of her chastity and rigorous penance by worshipping and fasting on the Vat tree. This is the reason why this fast was named Vat Savitri. According to the scriptures, Brahma resides in the root of the Vat tree, Vishnu in the middle and Lord Shiva in the front. That is why this tree is considered so sacred in our Sanatan Dharma.

01. When is Vat Savitri Vrat-festival?

This year in 2025, Vat Savitri Vrat festival will be celebrated on Monday, 26th May 2025.

02. Vrat Katha?

In ancient times, Savitri was the princess of Madra country. When she became young, Savitri got married to Satyavan as per the wish of her father King Ashvapati. Before marriage, Devrishi Narada had told Savitri that her husband Satyavan will live only for one year and his kingdom will also be lost, so do not marry him. But Savitri had accepted Satyavan as her husband, so she did not abandon the husband she had accepted with her heart. Savitri followed the duty of Pativrat for 01 year. She served her blind mother-in-law, father-in-law and short-lived husband with all her body, mind and wealth.

On the day of completion of one year, when Satyavan went to take girls from the forest as usual, Savitri also went with him. There a snake bit Satyavan. He fell unconscious. Then Yamraj appeared there and started taking Satyavan’s life. Seeing this, Savitri also went with him. Despite Yamraj’s repeated persuasion, she stood firm and kept requesting that either he should take her to Yamlok or he should return her husband’s life. Yamraj was very pleased to see Savitri’s devotion to her husband and he asked Savitri to ask for a boon. Savitri asked for eyes for her mother-in-law and father-in-law, her lost kingdom and to be the mother of 100 sons for herself. Yamraj, who was bound by his word, had to give her this boon and bring Satyavan back to life. By listening to this holy story of Savitri and following the devotion to her husband, all the wishes of women will be fulfilled and all the troubles will be removed.

03. Method of worship?

Women who observe fast should take bath in the morning after finishing their daily chores and wear clean and pure clothes. Then take a vessel filled with water and go to the Banyan tree and take a vow to fast and pour the water of the vessel in the roots. Apply a tilak of roli sandalwood etc. on the trunk of the tree and offer rice, jaggery, gram, fruits and other dishes. Then make idols of Satyavan, Savitri and Yamraj from clay and do Panchopchar Puja on it with incense, lamp and offerings-flowers etc. After this, wrap raw white cotton threads dyed in turmeric around the trunk of the tree while circumambulating it seven times. And pray to the tree deity for the unbroken good fortune and long life of your husband. After the completion of fast and worship, invite Brahmins to your home and feed them and give donations etc. Finally listen to the story of Satyavan and Savitri.
