हमारे सनातन धर्म में लगभग सभी पुराणों में श्रावण मास की महिमा का वर्णन किया गया है। श्रावण मास जिसे सावन का महीना भी कहते हैं, हमारे हिंदू पंचांग के अनुसार नव संवत्सर का पांचवा महीना होता है। यह महीना भगवान शिव को समर्पित होता है और भगवान शिव की पूजा-उपासना, भक्ति करने के लिए अत्यंत पावन माना जाता है। कहा जाता है कि देवशयनी एकादशी वाले दिन भगवान श्रीहरि विष्णु के शयन करने के पश्चात संसार को सुचारू रूप से चलाने की समस्त जिम्मेदारी भगवान भोलेनाथ पर होती है। अतः इस समय सभी भक्तजन शिव की पूजा करके सीधे उनकी ऊर्जा और आशीर्वाद ग्रहण कर सकते हैं। सावन का यह पवित्र महीना भगवान शिव को अत्यंत प्रिय है। यह महीना भगवान शिव को क्यों प्रिय है, इसके पीछे कई धार्मिक, पौराणिक और आध्यात्मिक कारण हैं।

01. पौराणिक मान्यता

सबसे प्रमुख मान्यता समुद्र मंथन की कथा से जुड़ी हुई है। जब देवताओं और असुरों नें अमर होने के लिए अमृत प्राप्त करने हेतु समुद्र मंथन किया, तब उसमें 14 रत्नों के साथ हलाहल विष भी निकला। यह इतना भयंकर विष था कि समस्त सृष्टि का नाश कर सकता था। तब भगवान भोलेनाथ ने समस्त सृष्टि की रक्षा करने के लिए यह विष स्वयं ग्रहण कर लिया था। इस विष को ग्रहण करने के कारण उनका कंठ नीला पड़ गया और शरीर में भयंकर जलन होने लगी। तब माता पार्वती समेत सभी देवताओं और असुरों ने विभिन्न औषधियों और गंगाजल के द्वारा उन्हें स्नान कराया और उनका उपचार किया। इससे भगवान शिव को शांति प्राप्त हुई और उन्होंने आशीर्वाद दिया की जो भी भक्त गंगाजल द्वारा मेरा अभिषेक करेगा उसका बहुत कल्याण होगा। विष ग्रहण करने की यह घटना सावन महीने में घटी थी। तब से यह महीना भगवान शिव को समर्पित माने जाने लगा। और जो भी इस महीने में भगवान शिव के अभिषेक के साथ पूजा उपासना करता है उसकी समस्त समृद्धि के साथ मोक्ष की भी प्राप्ति होती है।

02. आध्यात्मिक महत्व

आषाढ़ माह के बाद जब वर्षा ऋतु प्रारंभ होती है तब समस्त संसार को सूर्य की तीव्र ज्वाला और गर्मी से मुक्ति मिलती है। समस्त धरती हरी-भरी हो जाती है एवं वातावरण शुद्ध और शांत हो जाता है। तब मनुष्य का मन भी साधना और ईश्वर भक्ति की ओर प्रवृत्त होता है। इस समय साधु-सन्यासी भी अपना भ्रमण छोड़कर के चातुर्मास करते हैं। और जप, तप एवं साधना में लीन हो जाते हैं। यही कारण है कि ऋषि मुनि भी सनातन काल से इस समय खंड को उपासना और साधना के लिए उपयुक्त मानते थे। इस माह में भगवान शिव की ऊर्जा और कृपा इस धरती पर सीधे आती है अतः इस समय शिव के मंत्रो का जाप, रुद्राभिषेक, शिव का ध्यान, पूजन आदि विशेष फलदाई होता है।

03. श्रावण महीने के त्यौहार

श्रावण मास के अंतर्गत कुछ त्योहार और पर्व भी आते हैं जो भगवान शिव के समस्त परिवार से जुड़े होते हैं।

(क) नाग पंचमी

यह त्यौहार श्रावण शुक्लपक्ष की पंचमी तिथि को मनाया जाता है। इस दिन नाग देवता विशेष तौर पर वासुकी नाग परिवार की पूजा की जाती है। भगवान वासुकी भगवान शिव के गले में कण्ठहार के रूप में विराजमान रहते हैं।

(ख) हरियाली तीज

इस पर्व को श्रावण मास के शुक्लपक्ष के तृतीया तिथि को मनाया जाता है। इस दिन विशेष तौर पर महिलाएं माता पार्वती की पूजा अर्चना करती है और व्रत-उपवास द्वारा अपने पति के दीर्घायु होने की कामना करती हैं।

(ग़) सोमवार व्रत

सावन माह के प्रत्येक सोमवार का विशेष महत्व होता है। सभी लोग इस दिन व्रत रखते हैं और शिवालय में शिवलिंग पर जल, बेलपत्र, धतूरा, आक, कच्चे दूध, शहद, दही, मिष्ठान आदि से अभिषेक करते हैं। यह व्रत समस्त मनोकामना की पूर्ति करता है। मान्यता है कि इस व्रत से विवाह, संतान, उत्तम स्वास्थ्य और समृद्धि प्राप्त होती है।

(घ) पितृ पूजन

श्रावण मास की कृष्णपक्ष की चतुर्दशी तिथि को पितरों के कल्याण निमित्त विशेष पूजन किया जाता है। हमारे समस्त पूर्वजों और पितरों को पिंडदान, तर्पण आदि से प्रसन्न किया जाता है और उनकी मुक्ति हेतु भगवान शिव से प्रार्थना की जाती है। कहा जाता है कि इस समय किया हुआ पितृ विसर्जन हमारे पितरों-पूर्वजों को शिवलोक में स्थान दिलाता है।

(च) कांवड़ यात्रा

श्रावणमास में देशभर से लाखों शिवभक्त कावड़ यात्रा पर निकलते हैं और पवित्र नदियों के जल को ले जाकर के अपने क्षेत्र के प्रसिद्ध शिव मंदिरों में जलाभिषेक करते हैं। यह श्रद्धालु शिव भक्त भगवान शिव के जयकारों के साथ पैदल लंबी दूरी करते हैं। यह यात्रा न केवल भक्ति का प्रतीक है बल्कि सामूहिक आस्था और सामाजिक समरसता का अद्भुत उदाहरण भी है।

(छ) रक्षाबंधन

भाई बहन के पवित्र प्रेम का प्रतीक रक्षाबंधन भी सावन माह के पूर्णिमा तिथि को मनाया जाता है।

(ज) श्रवण नक्षत्र की विशेष पूजा

कुछ ज्योतिषी अपने जातकों को पूर्व जन्मों के कर्मों और कुंडली के कुछ अशुभ योगों से मुक्ति के लिए इस महीने श्रवण नक्षत्र में शिवजी की पूजा करने का परामर्श देते हैं। इस समय की गई पूजा बहुत फलदाई होती है। इसके अलावा श्रावण मास में की गई कालसर्प दोष, शनि की साढ़ेसाती, ढैया, राहु-केतु आदि की शांति, नवग्रह पूजन आदि का विशेष फल मिलता है।

उपरोक्त विवेचन से यह स्पष्ट होता है कि श्रावण का महीना केवल एक धार्मिक समय नहीं बल्कि यह अपनी आध्यात्मिक साधना द्वारा अपनी आत्म चेतना को उच्च स्तर पर ले जाने का पवित्र अवसर है। इस समय न केवल हम प्रकृति से जुड़ते हैं बल्कि शिवजी के पूजन के माध्यम से उनकी कृपा प्राप्त करते हैं। अतः श्रावण मास हर शिव भक्त के लिए आस्था, भक्ति और आत्मिक उत्थान का अमूल्य अवसर है।

In our Sanatan Dharma, the glory of Shravan month has been described in almost all the Puranas. Shravan month, which is also called the month of Sawan, is the fifth month of Nav Samvatsara according to our Hindu calendar. This month is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is considered very holy for worshiping and worshipping Lord Shiva. It is said that after Lord Shri Hari Vishnu sleeps on the day of Devshayani Ekadashi, the entire responsibility of running the world smoothly falls on Lord Bholenath. Therefore, at this time all the devotees can worship Shiva and receive his energy and blessings directly. This holy month of Sawan is very dear to Lord Shiva. There are many religious, mythological and spiritual reasons behind why this month is dear to Lord Shiva.

01. Mythological belief

The most prominent belief is related to the story of Samudra Manthan. When the Gods and Demons churned the ocean to obtain Amrit to become immortal, then along with 14 gems, Halahal poison also came out. It was such a dreadful poison that it could destroy the entire creation. Then Lord Bholenath himself consumed this poison to protect the entire creation. Due to consuming this poison, his throat turned blue and there was severe burning sensation in his body. Then all the Gods and Demons including Mother Parvati gave him a bath with various medicines and Ganga water and treated him. This brought peace to Lord Shiva and he blessed that any devotee who will anoint me with Ganga water will be blessed. This incident of consuming poison happened in the month of Sawan. Since then, this month is considered to be dedicated to Lord Shiva. And whoever worships Lord Shiva with Abhishek in this month, he attains salvation along with all prosperity.

02. Spiritual significance

When the rainy season begins after the month of Ashadh, the whole world gets relief from the intense flames and heat of the sun. The entire earth becomes green and the atmosphere becomes pure and calm. Then the mind of man also gets inclined towards meditation and devotion to God. At this time, sages and saints also leave their wandering and do Chaturmas. And get engrossed in chanting, penance and meditation. This is the reason that since the ancient times, sages and saints also considered this time period to be suitable for worship and meditation. In this month, the energy and grace of Lord Shiva comes directly to this earth, hence chanting of Shiva’s mantras, Rudrabhishek, meditation of Shiva, worship etc. are especially fruitful at this time.

03. Festivals of Shravan month

Some festivals and celebrations also come under the month of Shravan which are related to the entire family of Lord Shiva.

(a) Nag Panchami

This festival is celebrated on the fifth day of the Shukla Paksha of Shravan. On this day, the snake deity, especially the Vasuki snake family, is worshipped. Lord Vasuki sits around Lord Shiva’s neck in the form of a necklace.

(b) Hariyali Teej

This festival is celebrated on the third day of the Shukla Paksha of Shravan month. On this day, women especially worship Goddess Parvati and pray for the long life of their husbands by fasting.

(c) Monday fast

Every Monday of the month of Shravan has special significance. Everyone observes a fast on this day and performs Abhisheka on the Shivling in the Shiva temple with water, Bel leaves, Dhatura, Aak, raw milk, honey, curd, sweets, etc. This fast fulfils all wishes. It is believed that this fast leads to marriage, children, good health and prosperity.

(d) Pitru Pujan

On the Chaturdashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Shravan month, special worship is done for the welfare of ancestors. All our ancestors and forefathers are pleased with Pinddaan, Tarpan etc. and prayers are offered to Lord Shiva for their salvation. It is said that Pitru Visarjan done at this time gives our ancestors a place in Shivalok.

(f) Kanwar Yatra

In the month of Shravan, lakhs of Shiva devotees from all over the country go on the Kanwar Yatra and take the water of the holy rivers and perform Jalabhishek in the famous Shiva temples of their region. These devout Shiva devotees walk long distances on foot with the chants of Lord Shiva. This journey is not only a symbol of devotion but is also a wonderful example of collective faith and social harmony.

(g) Rakshabandhan

Rakshabandhan, a symbol of the sacred love of brother and sister, is also celebrated on the full moon day of the month of Shravan.

(j) Special worship of Shravan Nakshatra

Some astrologers advise their people to worship Lord Shiva in Shravan Nakshatra this month to get rid of the deeds of previous births and some inauspicious yogas of the horoscope. The worship done at this time is very fruitful. Apart from this, special results are obtained for the peace of Kalsarp Dosh, Shani Sadhesati, Dhaiya, Rahu-Ketu etc., Navgrah Pujan etc. done in the month of Shravan.

It is clear from the above discussion that the month of Shravan is not only a religious time but it is a sacred opportunity to take our self-consciousness to a higher level through our spiritual practice. 01. सावन माह में कांवड़ यात्रा क्यों की जाती है?

सावन का महीना हमारे सनातन धर्म में विशेष रूप से पवित्र माना जाता है। कहा जाता है कि देवशयनी एकादशी के बाद जब संसार के पालनकर्ता भगवान श्रीहरि विष्णु 04 माह के लिए योग निद्रा में चले जाते हैं तो संसार का समस्त भार भगवान शिव भोलेनाथ पर आ जाता है। सावन से लेकर कार्तिक मास तक के सभी महीनो में श्रावण मास की अलग विशेषता है। कहा जाता है कि श्रावण का महीना भगवान भोलेनाथ को अत्यंत प्रिय है। इस महीने से वर्षा ऋतु के शीतल जल से भगवान भोलेनाथ को शीतलता पहुंचती है।

श्रावण मास में शिवभक्त कावड़ यात्रा करते हैं। कावड़ एक विशेष प्रकार का बांस का तराजू नुमा ढांचा होता है जिसके दोनों सिरों पर पवित्र नदियों के जल से भरे कलश लटकाए जाते हैं। भक्त लोग पवित्र नदियों का जल लेकर किसी स्थानीय सिद्ध शिव मंदिर अथवा ज्योतिर्लिंग पर पैदल ले जाकर शिवलिंग पर अभिषेक करते हैं।

कांवड़ लगाने की परंपरा भगवान शिव को समर्पित भक्ति का प्रतीक है। मान्यता है कि अमृत मंथन के पश्चात जब विष निकला, तो भगवान शिव ने उसे पीकर संसार की रक्षा की। विष ग्रहण करने के कारण उनका शरीर जब जलने लगा तब मां पार्वती ने विभिन्न औषधियों और गंगाजल से उनका उपचार किया। इस कारण उन्हें शीतलता प्रदान करने के लिए पवित्र नदियों का जल चढ़ाया जाता है। तब भगवान भोलेनाथ प्रसन्न होकर भक्त जनों को आशीर्वाद देते हैं।

02. कावड़ यात्रा की परंपरा किसने शुरू की?

इसके बारे में विभिन्न पौराणिक मान्यताएं हैं। कुछ पुराणों के अनुसार भगवान शिव का परम भक्त रावण ने राक्षस ताल में स्नान करने के बाद, मानसरोवर से जल ले जाकर के कैलाश पर्वत पर स्थित भगवान शिव का अभिषेक किया था।
उसके बाद देवताओं ने भी इसका अनुसरण करते हुए जल ले जाकर के भगवान शिव को अर्पित करने लगे। तब से कावड़ यात्रा की परंपरा शुरू हुई।

अन्य पुराणों के अनुसार भगवान परशुराम ने गढ़मुक्तेश्वर से गंगाजल लाकर प्राचीन पुरा महादेव मंदिर में शिवलिंग का अभिषेक किया था। तब से कावड़ यात्रा की शुरुआत हुई। एक अन्य मान्यता के अनुसार भगवान राम ने सुल्तानगंज से गंगाजल ले जाकर बिहार के बैद्यनाथ धाम में बाबा बैद्यनाथ के शिवलिंग पर अभिषेक किया था। तब से कावड़ यात्रा की परंपरा प्रारंभ हुई।

03. क्या है कांवड़ यात्रा का धार्मिक और आध्यात्मिक महत्व?

कांवड़ यात्रा केवल धार्मिक यात्रा नहीं है, बल्कि इसका गहरा आध्यात्मिक महत्व भी है। जब कोई भक्त पवित्र नदियों से जल भरकर उसे अपने कंधों पर ढोकर पैदल ही शिवालय तक पहुंचता है, तब न केवल भगवान शिव के प्रति अपनी भक्ति प्रकट करता है बल्कि तन, मन और आत्मा को शुद्ध करने की एक तपस्या भी करता है। कांवड़ यात्रा के दौरान कई कठोर नियमों का पालन किया जाता है। जैसे- मांस-मदिरा से दूर रहना,।ब्रह्मचर्य का पालन करना, कांवड़ को जमीन पर नहीं रखना और भूमि पर शयन करना इत्यादि। इस प्रकार मन, कर्म और वचन की शुद्धि हो जाती है।

कांवड़ यात्रा का सबसे सुंदर पहलू इसकी सामूहिकता है। जब लाखों लोग भगवान शिव का जयघोष एक साथ करते हैं तब एक विशेष ऊर्जा का निर्माण होता है। छोटे-बड़े सेवक जगह-जगह शिविर लगाकर यात्रियों को भोजन, विश्राम और चिकित्सा आदि की सेवा देते हैं। जिससे सामाजिक सहयोग और करुणा की भावना बढ़ती है। कहते हैं जो भक्त सच्चे मन से कांवड़ ले जाकर शिव जी पर अभिषेक करते हैं, भगवान उनकी मनोकामना अवश्य पूरी करते हैं। इस प्रकार सावन में कांवड़ यात्रा न सिर्फ पूजा पाठ बल्कि आत्मशुद्धि, सामाजिक एकता और सच्ची सेवा भाव का प्रतीक बन चुका है।

01. Why is Kanwar Yatra done in the month of Sawan?

The month of Sawan is considered especially sacred in our Sanatan Dharma. It is said that after Devshayani Ekadashi, when the protector of the world, Lord Shri Hari Vishnu, goes into Yog Nidra for 04 months, then the entire burden of the world comes on Lord Shiva Bholenath. Shravan month has a different specialty among all the months from Sawan to Kartik month. It is said that the month of Shravan is very dear to Lord Bholenath. From this month, Lord Bholenath gets coolness from the cool water of the rainy season.

Shiv devotees do Kavad Yatra in the month of Shravan. Kavad is a special type of bamboo scale-like structure, on both ends of which urns filled with water from holy rivers are hung. Devotees take water from holy rivers and take it to a local Siddha Shiva temple or Jyotirlinga on foot and perform Abhishek on the Shivling.

The tradition of offering Kaanvad is a symbol of devotion dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is believed that when poison came out after Amrit Manthan, Lord Shiva drank it and protected the world. When his body started burning due to consuming poison, Mother Parvati treated him with various medicines and Gangajal. For this reason, water from holy rivers is offered to him to provide coolness. Then Lord Bholenath becomes happy and blesses the devotees.

02. Who started the tradition of Kaanvad Yatra?

There are various mythological beliefs about this. According to some Puranas, Ravana, the supreme devotee of Lord Shiva, after taking bath in Rakshas Tal, took water from Manasarovar and performed Abhishek of Lord Shiva situated on Mount Kailash.

After that, the gods also followed this and started taking water and offering it to Lord Shiva. Since then the tradition of Kaanvad Yatra started.

According to other Puranas, Lord Parshuram brought Ganga water from Garhmukteshwar and anointed the Shivalinga in the ancient Pura Mahadev temple. Since then the Kavad Yatra started. According to another belief, Lord Rama took Ganga water from Sultanganj and anointed the Shivalinga of Baba Baidyanath in Baidyanath Dham in Bihar. Since then the tradition of Kavad Yatra started.

03. What is the religious and spiritual significance of Kanwar Yatra?

Kanwar Yatra is not only a religious journey, but it also has deep spiritual significance. When a devotee fills water from holy rivers and carries it on his shoulders and reaches the Shiva temple on foot, then he not only expresses his devotion towards Lord Shiva but also does a penance to purify the body, mind and soul. Many strict rules are followed during the Kanwar Yatra. Such as staying away from meat and alcohol, following celibacy, not keeping the Kanwar on the ground and sleeping on the ground etc. In this way the mind, action and speech are purified.

The most beautiful aspect of Kanwar Yatra is its collectivity. When lakhs of people chant the praises of Lord Shiva together, a special energy is created. Small and big volunteers set up camps at various places and provide food, rest and medical services to the pilgrims. This increases the feeling of social cooperation and compassion. It is said that the devotees who carry Kanwar with a true heart and perform Abhishek on Lord Shiva, God definitely fulfills their wishes. In this way, Kanwar Yatra in Sawan has become a symbol of not only worship but also self-purification, social unity and true service.
